Bass Clarinet Lessons

Elizabeth Lockhart-Videtto

Elizabeth Lockhart-Videtto has been involved in music all of her life. As a music student in Norwalk, Connecticut, her earliest memories are singing solos on the stage and playing the viola in the third grade. Honors at music camps and recognition, such as being selected to All-City Orchestra soon followed. Ms. Lockhart’s focus changed from strings to band and the bass clarinet when she relocated for several years to Kingwood, Texas. She was fortunate enough to participate in one of the strongest music programs in East Texas. Elizabeth shined at solo and ensemble contest and as a featured soloist at several Steven F. Austin State University- High School Band Camps, under the direction of conductors Jonathan Whitwell and Dr. William D. Revelli. In 1988, she moved with her family back to Norwalk and used her musical training to excel in her high school music program. With the Norwalk Marching Band, Elizabeth was a part of winning 2 consecutive EMBA marching band titles. The band performed at the Mazda Gator Bowl, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. As a soloist, she achieved the honor of being first chair bass clarinet of the Connecticut All-State Band for her 3 years at Norwalk High School. She was also selected as one of a handful of state representatives to the MENC All-Eastern Band in 1991. Ms. Lockhart was also a member of the Norwalk Youth Symphony and was selected in 1991 to be on the substitute list for the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Lockhart continued her musical studies, receiving a scholarship to attend the University of Delaware as a music education major and a vocal performance minor. While at Delaware, Elizabeth expanded her musical interests by participating in most of the major performing ensembles at the time. She was a member of the UD Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band II, University Singers, Choral Union, Collegium Musicum (an early music ensemble), and Gamelan Lake of the Silver Bear- an Indonesian performance ensemble that she was a part of for 10 years until the retirement of the ensemble at the university. She also began teaching lessons with the UD Community Music School and teaching private lessons for woodwind students. In 1995, Elizabeth graduated with a degree in Music Education from UD and decided to continue with her studies at Temple University. She was awarded a graduate assistantship with the Temple Diamond Band where she worked closely with band directors, Dr. Brad Townsend and Mr. Arthur Chodoroff and taught lessons to members of Collegiate Band. She directed the Diamond Band on the field at Veteran’s Stadium and ran the pep band at many Temple Women’s Basketball games. She was also a bass and contrabass clarinetist in the Wind Symphony and Collegiate Band. Ms. Lockhart began an affiliation with Accent Music in 1997 teaching private lessons at the Concord Pike location in Wilmington. After leaving Temple in 1998, Ms. Lockhart began her public school teaching career with the Christina School District. She was the director of bands and the orchestra director at Bayard Intermediate School until August, 2007. She is currently the band director at Kirk Middle School in Newark, DE, where she has a successful concert band, percussion class, and jazz band. Mrs. Lockhart-Videtto continues to play the bass clarinet professionally with the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey, under the direction of Dr. Robert Streckfuss.
