8-ply [7 basswood, maple exterior] Shell Thickness: 7.2mm Engineering Evaluation: Basswood is an excellent hardwood for instrument making. Its sonic properties are very similar to maple, yet it possesses a little warmer tone that’s similar to birch. This year, we’ve added a beautiful exterior maple veneer to the shell to allow the transparent lacquer to accentuate the wood grain.
