David Poland is a third generation fiddler with powerful early influence from grandfather, Moses Seldom Poland.  He is a versatile and formally trained violinist/fiddler with extensive background in performing, recording, teaching, and violin repair and restoration.

Students who study with Mr. Poland will receive instruction focused on Bluegrass, Old Time, Celtic, country and swing fiddle techniques and application.  

Major influences are Moses Poland, Vassar Clements, Stephane Grappelli, Jascha Heifetz, and Django Reinhardt.


•1977-1981 – Plymouth Plantation, Plymouth, MA – 17th cent.fiddler for visitors touring the plantation, and set dancing.
•1979 – 1983 – Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra – Violinist – under the direction of Rudolf Schlegal

•1977 – 1987 – provided home instruction to students in classical violin and traditional fiddle styles

•1993 – 2001 – featured on The Today Show performing during excursions on the sailboat Endeavor out of Nantucket Harbor

•1994 – 2000 – fronted Poland Strings, widely-acclaimed, performed all prominent venues/events on Nantucket Island, MA


•1976 – 1978 - School of Contemporary Music, Brookline, MA (Music Theory, Ear Training, Violin Performance)

•1978-1979 - Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA (Jazz Violin, Rhythm Articulation) w/Dan Kellar (Private Instruction)

•1979-1980 - All Newton Music School, Newton, MA  Scholarship Program, (Violin) with Ellen Seaman

•1977-1979 - with Basil Prangoulus, former professor of violin at New England Conservatory of Music (Violin Studies)

•1980-1982 – with J. Jerry Tetewsky, Professor of Violin at Princeton University and Concertmaster of the RCA Orchestra (Classical Violin and Solo Performance)
